License to Fish

Fishing is just one of the many forms of relaxation people do these days with either friends or family. It is a time for bonding and a great escape from the pressures of daily life.

To be able to fish, a person needs to get a fishing license since this is requirement by law and the regulations regarding fishing fishing in the dark fishing lure varies from one state to the other.

In some states, 2 licenses are needed. One is called the Conservation license which is a prerequisite before one can obtain a fishing license.

Getting a license to fish is quite different from the time a person needed to get a drivers license. The person does not have to take an exam or get a student�s permit before being issued one.

The tuna fish Conservation license can be obtained from the Fish saltwater fishing lures, Wildlife & Parks or FWP. This is done by giving one�s social security number and other information that is requested. A valid driver�s license or any valid ID with photo must also be presented for security purposes for the license to be processed.

The fishing license bass fishing guides allows a person to fish or possess any aquatic creature as long as it is authorized by the state�s fishing regulations. This license is neither non-transferable nor non-refundable and is only valid for one year or season.

Since fishing licenses as mentioned earlier vary from state to state, a fishing license can either be a resident license or a non-resident license. For one to qualify for a resident license, that person must have resided in that certain location for a period of time such as 6 months, should be a local tax payer , must be a registered voter, purchased a vehicle and have a valid driver�s issued from that state. In addition, one must not possess or walleye fishing apply for any resident hunting, fishing or trapping privileges in another state or country.

A non-resident can fish in another state as long as the person is accompanied by someone who resides in that state.

There is no age limit for anyone to acquire a fishing license. People both young and old can obtain it. Usually a person who is below 11 years of age can get a fishing license for free. People who are older than that have to pay a certain fee to acquire it.

With the paper work in proper order, one can just grab the proper gear, a boat and start having some fun being close with nature.

Few things on the planet earth are more of an adventure than Alaska fly in fishing. Boarding a single engine airplane and flying into the Alaska wilderness is in many ways, the definition of adventure. His reply was ?try this one? as he gave me a fly from his fly box that looked like a fluorescent orange wooly bugger. In about 15 minutes I was into a nice fish of about 10 lbs. To this day, that is the only fish I have ever caught on that fly, I have fished it on several other steelhead rivers here in Oregon without success. The Red Ant is another pattern that seems to be a one-river fly. It?s a great fly on the Rouge River, but for me, that seems to be the only river where it catches fish.

Another curiosity about steelhead flies: A fly pattern may catch fish one year, and the following year, it just doesn?t seem to work Therefore, if you?re going to fly fish a new river for steelhead, better check with a local fly shop or the local fly fishing club and find out what steelhead fly patterns are catching fish for that particular river.

I happened to be a firm believer in confidence that you have for a particular fly pattern. For example, when you tie a fly on the end of your leader that you feel good about, and you get that special ?feeling? that it will catch you a fish, chances are, it will work. Also when fishing gets tough because of fishing pressure and hot bright days, stay with the time tested fly patterns that have caught fish over the years.

Needless to say, one of my favorite Steelhead Flies is the Green Butt Skunk. I tie it un-weighted in sizes 4 & 6, on a black finish up-eye fly hook. I consider this a good morning and mid-day fly and have also caught fish on it with bright sun on the water. Second is the plain Skunk with an all white wing, I tie it in sizes 2, 4, and 6 on nickel-plated down-eye hooks. I like the size 2 for winter fish and the 4 & 6 during late low light afternoons and evenings for summer fish. The number three and number four favorites, would have to be the Umpqua Special and the Orange General Practitioner, both of these flies are tied un-weighted on size 4 up-eye hooks. I like to fish these patterns early in the morning on the edges of fast currents using a sink tip fly line and a short leader. Pattern # 5 would have to be the Black Wooly Bugger size 6. I usually tie this fly weighted on a 4x long 2x strong down eye hook with a long black marabou tail with a few strands of pearl flashabou and a black cactus chenille body with a black hackle wrap. The # 6 fly and one of my favorites because of its versatility, is the Muddler Minnow and I tie this fly on a #6 down eye, 6x long hook. This fly can be fished wet with a trimmed cone head or it can be fishing dry or skated with a trimmed ball head using a riffle hitch.

I use both weighted and un-weighted steelhead flies. However, I feel that an un-weighted fly has more movement in the water because it is affected more by the different current flows than a weight fly. Some sections of fly-only waters prohibit the use of weighted flies, so check the fishing regulations for those waters. However there are times when you just have to get the fly down on the bottom and a weighted fly may be needed.

River Fishing - Smallmouth Bass

River fishing for Smallmouth Bass can be a ton of fun. Many anglers may not realize it, but smallmouth bass can be fished for in much the same way that trout are. You can put on your waders, fishing vest, and polarized sunglasses, then grab your ultra light rod and go fishing for smallmouth bass, just like you do for trout. Smallmouth bass can even be caught using many of the same techniques.

If you're a live bait angler, as I am, Smallmouth bass offer me a great way to keep my angling skills sharp for trophy trout (at least that's how I look at it). Smallmouth Bass are widely considered to be the hardest fighting fish, pound for pound that swims in freshwater. I don't know if this is really true, because I've met many rainbow trout with "skills", but smallmouth can definitely hold their own. You couple the tenacity of a smallmouth with the current in a river, and you've got a recipe for a great time!

One of the best techniques that can be used to catch smallmouth in rivers is to use a live worm. Sure hellgrammites and minnows work well too, but for me a live worm rigged on a set of gang hooks is hard to beat. You see, a set of gang hooks is simply two small hooks tied in tandem, which presents a live worm in a completely natural manner. When you use a set of #10 gang hooks, it's hard to tell there arte even hooks in the worm. And if a human being has a hard time seeing the hooks, doesn't it stand to reason that the fish won't be able to see the hooks either?

Lures can also be used to catch smallmouth bass in rivers. Spinners and spoons are a great choice. Colors used will vary depending on conditions and experimentation is always the key to lure fishing. Frog imitations are usually a good idea and red and white spoons/spinners always seem to produce well. Another great lure for smallmouth is a jig. A jig with a Powerbait twister tail will sometimes out fish live bait, especially when fishing for smallmouth bass in rivers. Again, for the right color, experimentation is the key.

If you're in an are of the country where there are smallmouth bass, don't forget to put of your waders, fill your bait bag with worms, grab your gang hooks, and go fishing for them in rivers. Whether you do it for the shear enjoyment of a good fight or so stay in shape for trout fishing, the point is that catching smallmouth bass in rivers makes for a great time.

Top 7 Tips to Help You in Alaska King Salmon Fishing

If you are looking for an exciting fishing excursion, few fishing trips can boast of being as exciting as Alaska king salmon fishing. Whether you are a novice or a professional fisherman, Alaska king salmon fishing is sure to give the thrill you are looking for! There are certain tips and tricks which, if you adopt, will improve your chances of catching the king salmon (or Chinook). Once you learn these trips and tricks, you won't need to hire any fishing guides or charters in order to find out the best fishing locations in the state. In this article I will tell you of some such tips and tricks.

1. It pays to know about the behavior of the salmon species you are going after, and Alaska king salmon fishing is no different in this regard. King salmons usually move closer to the shore during spring time. Your selection of lures and baits will largely depend on the water conditions, temperature and clarity or cloudiness of the water where you are going to fish.

2. In the height of Alaska King salmon fishing season, there is daylight throughout the twenty-four hours. This means that unlike other fishing locations, you don't need to choose just the standard fishing hours in Alaska. In fact the ideal time for catching king salmons in Alaska is before the minimal dark or during the early hours of dawn.

3. Fishermen going for deep ocean fishing usually use cut herring or herring attractors as baits, and then use a slow trolling speed against the movement of the fish. In case you are not familiar with the movements of the fish, your best bet is to hire some expert fish finders.

4. Trolling speed generally depends on the tide of the water. If there is high tide then the trolling line would be longer than usual and the trolling speed will increase as well. Downriggers are usually used to discover the depths at which the salmons are feeding. Do note that such things can be done best by an angler who is experienced in king salmon fishing.

5. There are several different types of lures available for king salmon fishing. The best lure is the one which suits the water conditions of the area in which you are going to fish, and more importantly, the type of fishing you are going to pursue. Popular lures include egg clusters, t-spoons, Wiggle Warts, Kwikfish, flatfish, spinners and tadpoles using a smaller boat set on a low trolling speed across the mouth of rivers and shallow bars.

6. Shore tactics used for Alaska King Salmon fishing are slightly different. Tools like heavier weights and a large spoon are used in order to allow the lure to appear to “bounce” off the bottom. This weird behavior of the lure will most likely attract and irritate the salmon, and this will result in a hit on the lure.

7. If you are going for king salmon fishing in Alaska for the first time, I would recommend you hire a charter or a guide, even though it will add a bit more to your budget. Once you become expert enough in the different kinds of fishing techniques you will be able to handle the whole thing on your own.

If you're packing up your gear to go fishing - whether your venue is a mountain stream, a quiet Midwestern lake or the deep sea - there are a few things you should make a point to pack along besides your rods and reels. Here's a quick list of some very important - and a few very fun - gadgets that should make it into your tackle box.

In Case of Emergency
No one likes to think that bad things will happen, but sometimes they do. When the worst happens, you can minimize the damage by being prepared. What should you have in your tackle box (or on board your boat) to deal with emergencies?

An all-in-one survival kit that includes matches in a waterproof tin, a cutting tool with a sawed edge, a folding knife, aerial flares, a metal whistle and a large plastic garbage bag/tarp. You'll find some excellent compact survival kits that include all that you need to get you through the 72 hours that most matter if you're lost or stranded somewhere.

A working flashlight - for emergencies ranging from finding something in the darkest corner of a storage cubby to finding your way in unfamiliar terrain at night. The best of the current litter feature LED lights, which draw far less current so will stay bright up to ten times longer than most other types of flashlights. Some have been tested to run over 400 hours on 3 D-cell batteries.

Emergency signal light or survival light. LED lights are small and compact, but can pack a powerful wallop of brightness if you need it. An LED survival light that flashes a signal beacon can help searchers locate you if you're lost. You can pick up a Flash Fire LED survival light for less than $15, and pack it along on your keychain - a small price to pay if you find yourself with a stalled engine and night coming on.

Routine Lighting
Night fishing is a whole different animal than a lazy day on the riverbank. For one thing, you need to be able to see what you're doing. You'll really appreciate the convenience of a headlamp, which leaves both hands free for other things and eliminates the awkwardness of trying to position a standing light to focus illumination where you need it. Because of their light weight and the fact that they can run for days on the power of two triple AAA or a 9V battery, LED lights are the perfect choice for lightweight, bright and long-lasting headlamps.

Obviously, if you're fishing at night, you'll need more than just your headlamp for illumination. Most of the experts recommend diffuse lighting off the gunwales of your boat if you're using one, as well as camp lanterns and regular camp lighting to help you see your way.
The absolute best little gadget light that I've seen anywhere, though, is the Fisherman's 5-way Light Kit. It includes a hand held LED light with four colored refractor rods. Use the light without a rod, or pop on one of the colors to specialize the use: bright red for emergencies (slow flash, fast flash or steady as a beacon), blue for low light intensity and preserving your night vision, white for all purpose lighting and green for attracting fish. You'll get up to 100,000 hours of light in one of the easiest to use forms ever.
